The Journey of The Theyyam Tag

In a small village in North Kerala, the drums begin to beat.
The night sky flickers with firelight as a Theyyam performer steps into the sacred arena.
Painted head to toe, crowned in red, he is no longer just a man —he is divine.

Each movement is power.
Each step is prayer.
The community watches in silence,
their faith, their stories, their history — alive for one more night.

But when the ritual ends,
the paint fades.
The performer returns home.
And the world moves on,
rarely knowing the name of the man behind the god.

We at Indimate Experiences saw this,
and decided to change the story.

We created something small —
a baggage tag
but inside it, they placed something big.
Respect.
Gratitude.
And a promise:
that Theyyam will travel far beyond the villages where it was born.

Every traveler who journeys with Indimate Experiences carries this tag.
Every suitcase becomes a storyteller.
At airports, in train stations, in distant cities —
the colors of Theyyam catch curious eyes,
and someone, somewhere, asks,
“What is this?”

And just like that,
the story of Theyyam crosses borders.
The performers’ sweat, their devotion,
their art — it lives on,
not just in Kerala,
but in every heart that listens.

It is not just a tag.
It is a bridge —
between the performer and the traveler,
between a remote village and the world,
between today and generations to come.

Because sometimes,
it takes a journey to keep a tradition alive.
And sometimes,
the smallest gift carries the biggest story.

The Little Tag That Carried a Big Story

When travelers book a journey with Indimate Experiences, they aren’t just signing up for a holiday — they are stepping into the soul of South India.

Among the many experiences we offer, one stands out — Theyyam, the electrifying ritual art form of North Kerala. For centuries, Theyyam performers have transformed themselves into divine beings, carrying forward stories, prayers, and blessings of an entire community. But behind the vibrant colors and thundering drums lies a reality — the performers pour immense physical and mental energy into each performance, often with little recognition beyond their own villages.

That’s where Indimate Experiences decided to step in. We didn’t just want to show Theyyam to the world — we wanted to honour it.And so, a small but meaningful idea was born — a beautifully crafted baggage tag, inspired by the vivid colors and motifs of Theyyam. This wasn’t just a souvenir. It was a token of respect — for the art, for the performers, and for their generations-old tradition.

Each time a guest receives this tag, they carry with them more than a memory. They carry a story. A story that now travels across airports, across countries, across continents — whispering to the world about a community that dances for the gods, about an art form that refuses to fade.

Every tag is a quiet ambassador of Theyyam. And every traveler who wears it becomes a part of the movement — helping Indimate Experiences keep this cultural treasure alive, while supporting the artists and their families back home.

Sometimes, it doesn’t take a big gesture to make a big difference. Sometimes, it just takes a little tag with a lot of love — and a whole world willing to listen.

These unique mementos were created by Takshan Creatives, a woodcraft company led by skilled artisans with disabilities. Takshan, an ecosystem partner of Oorjja—a social enterprise dedicated to empowering persons with disabilities—exemplifies the spirit of resilience and the triumph of human potential. By supporting this initiative, we not only acknowledge the divine performers but also champions the artisans’ remarkable abilities, celebrating the culture of compassion that defines Kerala.
